| Who the Life For a Kid Foundation are helping |
Avie Fund![]() 4 year old Avaline - Avie for short suffers with severe Autism. Avie has no communication, social or imaginative play skills at all. She is nearly 5 years old and does not have any spoken language and cannot understand others either. She is still in nappies and teaching her anything at all is near impossible. She needs constant watching and supervision. The easiest way to describe her is to say she is like an 18 month old baby but in the body of a 5 year old - she puts everything in her mouth, has poor eye contact and is in a little world of her own. She finds the world around her very confusing and without some sort of specialist intervention her problems will remain lifelong. Life For A Kid are raising awareness helping fundraise so Avie can be put on a specialist teaching/therapy programme called ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) which she will receive via the Autism Partnership in Leeds : www.autismpartnership.co.uk ABA is a proven programme of teaching specifically designed for autistic children so they can learn the skills many take for granted: how to sit still for a period of time, how to pay attention and to listen, how to mimic/copy others, how to communicate and how to build relationships and friendships. The idea behind the programme is to make it possible for the child to be able to learn, and therefore be able to attend school and lead as normal a life as possible in the future. ABA has been the subject of many scientific tests, and the results show that on average over 75% of children that receive ABA improve significantly on the programme, whilst around 10-15% can be taken completely off the Autistic spectrum after a few years on the programme. It literally could turn Avie’s life around. This kind of therapy is not available on the NHS and funding through the LEA (Local Education Authority) may only be possible if I can prove my daughter is improving and learning on the programme, therefore we need to fund the first 6 months to a year of treatment with the hope that the LEA will consider funding after this time period, although we may have to continue funding it if they refuse. You can read about The Autism Partnership's ABA programme here: www.autismpartnership.co.uk/uk_services_ABA.php We need to reach a target of at least £3500 to start and fund the programme for an initial 6 months, which is why Avie's Fund was created. A donation no matter how big or small would be very gratefully received and appreciated. Every penny raised is a step towards Avie having as normal a life as possible, both now and well into the future. Thank you. You can donate to Avie by visiting uk.virginmoneygiving.com/aviesfund |
